Catherine Lane is an established visual artist with an extensive international background who lives and works on the stunning north coast of NSW. Lane most recently fulfilled the role of interim Director of the Gaya Ceramic Art Centre in 2018, but alongside her vibrant ceramic practice she works collaboratively across disciplines with other artists, notably Linelle Stepto (they have exhibited at Swell, Sculpture at Scenic World, Woodford Folk Festival and Hill End artist’s residency) and the Victorian based performance artist Moira Finucane of Finucane and Smith Unlimited (for whom she has made bespoke commissions for performances nationally and internationally). Lane’s sculptures explore her interest in our expanding disconnection from the natural world and make tangible and accessible our relationship with the animals around us. Lane’s work is held in the Brisbane Civic Art Gallery, Taiwan Cultural Centre, Icheon Ceramic Centre, Korea, Gifu Prefectural Museum, Japan and in 2012 she was awarded the prestigious Townsville Ceramic Award ($10,000) by the late Janet Mansfield.
