Aleisa Byfield creates individual functional and decorative ceramics with a contemporary aesthetic which includes homewares, jewellery and larger artistic works. Inspired by the fragile, seductive and receptive nature of clay, she has immersed herself in furthering her knowledge and relishing in the endless possibilities of ceramics, particularly for self exploration and expression. She is predominately self taught and is a member of the Port Macquarie Art & Craft Centre where members all share their knowledge with one another. She largely finds inspiration in Asian traditions and in the diversity and unpredictability of the textures, patterns and colours of the natural environment. She sees beauty in the flaws, scars and imperfections that are often overlooked and regularly collects discarded objects that may be incorporated into her pieces. Aleisa enjoys the freedom of using a variety of clays and has a relentless curiosity with experimentation and testing the limits.
