Australian Ceramics Community Member

About

“The shape and feel of functional ceramics should match their purpose so that seeing and handling them enhances the user’s experience. I endeavour to develop form to complement use, and explore colours, patterns and finishes in slip and glaze, for an intriguing visual interaction.”

Judy currently creates functional stoneware at Clay Bowl Pottery, her mud brick studio in the Grampians. She runs short courses enabling others to develop their creativity with clay. Presently her work involves slab-constructed and wheelthrown pieces decorated by carving into coloured slip or applying hand-drawn transfers.

Judy has explored pottery through courses, workshops and practice in studios in Melbourne, rural Victoria and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). She has a Graduate Diploma of Arts (Visual Arts) from Monash University where she researched dry glazes. During the 1990s she operated a gallery at Halls Gap featuring works of local artists along with her own ceramics.
