Nepean Potters Society

Australian Ceramics Community Member

About

Nepean Potters was formed on the 11th February 1975 by a group of local potters to form a support group and to spread their knowledge and love of pottery to the wider community. Members have visited local preschools and functions to share their skills with the young. Visiting Japanese students, from the Council, come to our Studio in St Marys where they make small, Australian animal sculptures, which are then fired ready to return to Japan with them. To provide an outlet to sell work, raise funds and show off their skills the society holds two exhibitions a year in June & December at Glenbrook Hall. A different theme is selected each time to encourage members to extend their knowledge and try out some new techniques. The group also supports & participates in the St Marys Community Centre’s Annual exhibition as well as the Ceramic’s section of the Penrith A.H. & I. Society. As a small group the potters do not run classes but instead a workshop is held on Tuesdays where members come along and work on their own projects, sharing companionship and knowledge, visitors are welcome. Monthly meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday to discuss Society matters, future events etc.

This piece and I have a weird love ... I hid it away for a long time but I just pulled it out for the first of the apricots. It’s growing on me.
