About

Waverley Woollahra Art School (WWAS) celebrating 50 years in 2018

Since 1968, Waverley Woollahra Art School has provided high quality art education by practicing artists.  With an impressive alumni of emerging and prizing winning artists, it is the arts hub of Sydney’s eastern suburbs, offering a range of art courses, talks, workshops, residencies and shows..

The courses are all based on a practical hands-on approach and class sizes are kept to a maximum of fifteen students which enables the tutors to better tailor the courses to meet the individual student’s needs and abilities.

Courses are open to everyone and no previous experience or knowledge of a subject is required except where stated. Classes include painting, drawing, mixed media, life drawing, watercolours, ceramics, mosaic, sculpture, printmaking, kids, teenager art & pottery classes.

‘I have been going to classes for five semesters.  My course has been all I had hoped for,  with it’s emphasis on each individual’s needs.’  Michael Bennett

The Arts School also runs popular School Holiday Programs for children and teenagers.  WWAS also holds the prestigious, annual Waverley Art Prize on behalf of Waverley Council, as well as Tutor and Student Art Exhibitions.

The Arts School is primarily self-funding, with a small percentage of its operating budget being provided by Waverley Council and Woollahra Council. This support is vital for the Centre to be able to maintain the diversity of education services it can provide to the community.
